🌟Sparkle, Song & Santa: Chippy’s Christmas Lights Shine Bright!

On Thursday 27th November, Chipping Norton sparkled with festive cheer as the town came together for our annual Christmas Lights Switch-On and Big Chippy Singalong.

The evening was packed with joy: late-night shopping, over 25 stalls brimming with crafts and charity goodies, and plenty of community spirit. The Chipping Norton Choral Society led the crowd in song, while Witney Radio kept the atmosphere buzzing with live coverage. Upstairs, mulled wine in the Upper Hall added warmth to a rainy night.

No Christmas celebration would be complete without Santa’s Sleigh, kindly brought to life by the Freemasons. Then came the grand moment: Lilly Jakeman and Bailea Harrison, joint Young Persons of the Year, joined the Mayor to light up the town — and Chippy shone brighter than ever.
A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers, performers, stallholders, and everyone who joined in. You made the night magical. Here’s to a joyful December in Chippy!

🎄 The Mayor’s Christmas Tree: Celebrating Stories for Every Child

At this year’s Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival, the Town Mayor, Sandra Coleman, decorated a special tree celebrating the Chippy Larder Book Bag Project, which ensures every local child has books to enjoy at home.

The tree is not only festive but fun — with 20 hidden characters from children’s literature waiting to be discovered by visitors.

In the New Year, the Mayor will host a lively Quiz Night to raise funds for the project. Please look out for more details after Christmas and join in supporting this wonderful cause.

Flag-flying at the Millennium Garden

Last month we flew The Human Rights Flag on the 25th November to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Day.

“THE CHIPPING NORTON AMNESTY GROUP is flying this Human Rights flag to mark the anniversary of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and to help raise awareness locally about all forms of violence against women.

Crimes including stalking, harassment, sexual assault, digital and domestic violence affect one in 12 women in England and Wales. With the number of recorded offences growing by 37% in 5 years, it has been designated “a national emergency”.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL campaigns to protect and champion human rights and for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline: 0800 731 0055, Mon-Fri 10:00-19:00″

We will also be flying the Human Right’s Day on 10 December:
