Chipping Norton Community Awards 2026

On Friday 23rd October we came together in the Town Hall to celebrate the impressive work of Chippy residents. The annual event is always a lovely occasion to come together, learn about what others are doing for the town and give them some well-deserved praise.

The winners of this year’s awards were:

Young Person of the Year – Amira Beckham

Organisation/group of the Year – OurCoop

The Beacham Award for Sporting Achievement – Chipping Norton Indoor Bowls Club

The Mayor’s Civic Award – Claire Toplisek

You can find out more information about our winners, and the shortlisted nominees, here: Celebrating Community Excellence at the Chipping Norton Community Awards 2026 – Chipping Norton Town Council

Autumn Spruce-Up

On Tuesday 13th October we were out and about in the town centre giving street furniture some much needed attention. We focussed on the phonebox, noticeboards, and bollards. We are particularly grateful to our loyal volunteers, Celia and Alan, for their continuous support of the Keep Chippy Beautiful initiative.

Congratulations to The Theatre

🏆 We’re delighted to congratulate The Theatre Chipping Norton on winning the 2026 Excellence in Inclusivity Award at the UK Theatre Awards.

The Town Council provides the Theatre with long-term grant funding through a multi-year agreement, helping to support its valuable work and enabling future planning with confidence. It’s wonderful to see this work receiving national recognition.

Congratulations to the whole Theatre team on this fantastic achievement.

Volunteer a little time, make a big difference this Christmas

Christmas is an ideal time to dip your toe into volunteering by supporting your community.

Across Oxfordshire, nonprofit organisations are busy preparing festive events that bring people together, support those in need and help make this time of year special. Many of these events rely on the time, enthusiasm and generosity of volunteers to make them happen.

To help connect people with events to get involved with, Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) has launched its Christmas Volunteering Calendar.

The online calendar highlights the festive opportunities where people can volunteer. Whether you have a few hours to spare, want to try something new or are looking for a meaningful way to give back this Christmas, volunteering can be a rewarding way to get involved.

For organisations, the calendar provides an opportunity to raise awareness of their festive events, reach potential volunteers and encourage more people to support their cause. By bringing these opportunities together, OCVA hopes to make it easier for residents to discover what is happening across Oxfordshire and find ways to contribute.

Visit OCVA’s events calendar and search under the category ‘Christmas volunteering’.

Spot the Scam Challenge

Host Hobbit is a free online challenge to help people recognise scam texts, emails and calls: “Can You Spot the Scam?” It shows eight everyday messages (parcel “redelivery fees”, bank alerts, “Hi Mum, new number” texts, fake invoices) and for each one people decide whether it looks genuine, looks suspicious or needs checking. Then it explains the warning signs and a safe next step, in line with NCSC and Take Five advice. There’s a new set each day.

It’s free, with no sign-up, adverts or data collection, and it works on a phone: Can You Spot the Scam? Free Scam Challenge | Host Hobbit
