The Chippy Larder

We are a community food hub based in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire and part of the SOFEA network. Our work is divided into two key branches: Food and Education.

Food: Providing Low-Cost, Sustainable Support

We run a community larder every Thursday, offering low-cost, sustainable food. Most of the food is provided through a subscription service with the charity SOFEA, supplemented by generous donations of surplus stock from local businesses. Membership is non means-tested, making access simple and stigma-free.

We also offer discretionary and sponsored memberships to ensure nobody is excluded due to cost. In collaboration with referrals from local schools, social workers, and charities, we provide emergency food parcels for those in crisis. These can include essential toiletries thanks to our partnership with the local charity Thrive. Our strong links with a network of local charities extend our reach and deepen our impact across the community.

Education: Supporting Every Child’s Potential

We recognise the deep inequality that exists within our local area. Chipping Norton and its surrounding rural communities have a significant wealth gap, and many children grow up without the resources they need to thrive academically.

To combat this, we have launched an Education Project focused on giving every child the best possible start. Our current initiative provides Home Learning Packs to every Reception-aged child in Chipping Norton, with plans to expand this offering further in the future. We have a board of Directors as well as a core team of regular volunteers and a much larger pool of ad-hoc volunteers that we can call upon
